The Evolution of Codes of Conduct in Open Source - Where We’ve Been and Where We Need to Go - Joanna Lee, Gesmer Updegrove LLP & Aeva Black, Microsoft

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Codes of Conduct (CoC) entered the open source community toolbox just over ten years ago, and, as with any ten year old technology, their age is showing. It’s time for a refresh. Current norms of practice often expose communities (and their leadership) to legal liability and community health risks. Join us for this talk to learn about problems with existing enforcement models and new best practices in CoC enforcement, including: *How to address gaps in some widely-adopted examples of Codes of Conduct *What legal risks can come with CoC enforcement, and how to effectively manage them *Why you need additional roles on your CoC enforcement team *What due process and fairness look like in CoC enforcement *Balancing transparency with confidentiality and privacy *Managing community relations if an alleged violation becomes highly publicized, divisive, or controversial
