Learn about the folio, the new memory management concept that's sweeping the kernel. Matthew will explain what possessed him to introduce the folio, and why you need to care about it. Attendees will learn what the folio does and how to use the folio in their own code. This session will also cover related improvements to Linux memory management such as slab, zsmalloc and network page pools.

Matthew submitted his first kernel patch in 1998. Since then, he has worked on file locking, PA-RISC, Itanium, SCSI, PCI, TRIM, NVMe, killable sleeps, and persistent memory. He currently spends most of his time working on the page cache.
